MaryAnn Raccosta produced her first book, The Survivor, The Hero & The AngelA Mother’s Story – One Decade, in August 2012. Her memoir was distributed as an Amazon hot new release and has been recognized by Kirkus Review as A notable, inspirational story of hardship and survival.”

MaryAnn worked in the Advertising/Production field for 20 years in the tri-state area (Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey.) In her title as Production Manager she was a liaison between art directors, account executives and the client.  She managed print material, vendor bids and deliveries and followed the internal management of projects. MaryAnn forfeited her career in 2000 to care for her two ill sons.

Raccosta holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Communication Design from Kutztown University, with a minor in Psychology, class of 1984. She married Jim Raccosta in 1993 and began a family. In 1995, their daughter, Gabrielle was born. The Raccosta plan seemed in order, however, in 1999 when their second child, James, was born, MaryAnn and Jim’s world turned upside down. James had critical issues: a rare liver disease and a rare genetic mitochondrial disorder. It was necessary for MaryAnn to become a stay-at-home mom and care for her ill sons. (Samuel, her third child, also inherited the error of metabolism, born February 2000.)

When her children were more stable, MaryAnn furthered her education in sciences because she felt her journey was leading her to become a registered nurse. MaryAnn became a certified Home health aide in 2007 and a certified nursing assistant in 2009. She worked with Bayada Home Health (2007-2011) and also in the hospital setting at Capital Health Regional Medical Center (2011-2014) on the surgical trauma floor. She also managed, with her husband, a small gourmet catering service The Culinary Tie, for three years (2003-2005.)

MaryAnn realized that pursuing a nursing career would not fit into her lifestyle since much time was dedicated to her boys. Instead, MaryAnn learned from her roles and through self-determination and encouragement from friends, MaryAnn composed her first book — journal entries became manuscript. This directed her new path as author, speaker and substitute teacher. MaryAnn currently is certified for Lawrence Township Public School and Mercer County Special Services School Districts.

As an author and speaker, MaryAnn shares her story. She engages education, healthcare and spiritual audiences.  She helps educators gain perspective from a special-need parent. She teaches medical staff about a rare mitochondrial disorder and the nuance of partnering with families who care for children with rare disorders. She helps families cope and to learn how to advocate for their children. She inspires people to live positively with love and faith, and she suggests to “Billow with the Wind,” believing in God’s plan and moving forward with courage.

MaryAnn is a member of the Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville where she participates in the Bread Ministry (managing the distribution of left over bread given to the needy) and is a religious education teacher for 5th and 6th grade students. MaryAnn has published essays about various parishoners and has written articles for Exceptional Parent magazine. She is a member of B.I.G. (believeinspiregrow), a woman’s support, education and networking organization.

MaryAnn resides in Lawrenceville NJ with her family and dreams of someday owning a Bed & Breakfast in the rolling hills of Virginia. She is simultaneously working on three new books “It Looks Like Rain,” “Billow with the Wind – The Raccosta Story Sequel,” and, “Four-Leaf Clover” which she expects to release in 2015.
